About the Artist

“Oil painting is the medium that best allows my investigations to develop and expand. It moves, feels and smells of the earth. I am interested in nature, the environment; our relationship to it and our impact on it. That opens up a world of possibilities, including landscape, figure, animal life, vibrations of sound, the magic that I perceive in nature, balance, rhythm and the passing of time. I find these elements to be related with fascination and complexity. Color is also my subject matter. It helps me find the psychological temperature of the image.

When the figure makes an appearance in my compositions, it adds an element of identification, holding up a mirror to our human condition. The underlying infrastructure is often influenced by music and exploring the transitory, emotive response to music.

In some of my more abstract paintings, I focus on finding a commonality in the compositional elements of these two expressive disciplines. This becomes a challenge to balance intellectual/mathematical architecture of a composition with the ephemeral nature of sound, and the physical architecture of the piano.

The dialogue between the inception of an idea and how it progresses through process is priceless. As difficult or effortless as the process can be, it is always a teacher and always a joy.” — Elizabeth Seewald Hill
